Ulverston visitor numbers on the rise
thanks to new leaflets
Tourism in Ulverston is booming after the
publication of one million information leaflets extolling the virtues
of 23 of the area's top visitor attractions.
Furness
and Cartmel Tourism sent the leaflets nationwide a month ago, and
already tourism appears to be on the increase.
Bill Cubin, curator of Ulverston's Laurel
and Hardy Museum, said visitor numbers had doubled compared to the same
time last year, and was in no doubt about the reason.
"They have been increasing all year but tourism
has really taken off since the publication of the top attractions leaflet,"
he said.
Len England, managing director of Cumbria
Crystal, also said visitor numbers had increased: "A lot of the people
who come to our factory shop say it is because of the leaflets.
"It's certainly been one of the most effective
and valuable exercises carried out under the tourism development action
programme." he said.
