A Web site has been launched to tell
the world that Cumbria, despite being the county worst hit by the
foot-and-mouth crisis, has never been ‘out of business’, as portrayed
in some of the national media.
Cumbriabackinbusiness.com has been
set up to help tourism and other businesses in the county and to
raise money for a fighting fund established by Cumbria Tourist Board.
The idea for the site came from Geoff Todd at Highfield House Hotel
in the heart of the Lake District, and was backed by Paul Johnson
of The Dedicated Partnership, a Web design company in Kendal that
specialises in tourism promotion

“I was delighted that Geoff brought
the idea to us,” said Paul. “Anything we can do to tell the public that
Cumbria is in fact very much open, despite how it has been portrayed,
just has to be positive.”
Launched by Tim Collins MP, the
site, which raised over £500 for the fighting fund even before its launch,
looks set to be a huge success, putting Cumbria firmly back on the tourist
map.
