Selling Furness to the Eskimos
Furness and Cartmel residents may soon be
rubbing noses with Eskimo tourists in search of a new and unusual holiday
destination. Ph.D. student Paul
Johnson , who is studying glaciology in West Greenland, has distributed
leaflets from Furness
and Cartmel Tourism in the country's airports.
Tourist group manager Tim Rogers said: "We
are pleased when local people offer to take our leaflets to distribute
while on holiday, and particularly when they are travelling to more unusual
destinations."
"You never know, the Eskimos may come over!"
When and if they do arrive, they will be
thrilled at the top 22 attractions listed in the tourism group's leaflets.
They include the Laurel and Hardy Museum in Ulverston, the Barrow Dock
Museum, the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, the La'al Ratty miniature Ravenglass
to Eskdale railway, and the Campbell Legend collection.
