NORTH-WEST EVENING MAIL, July 6, 2000 Web site revamped to attract visitors Furness Tourism Partnership has revamped its Web site in a bid to entice even more visitors to the region. The new and improved Web site - www.lake-district-peninsulas.co.uk - was officially re-launched at Holker Hall on Tuesday afternoon. The Furness Peninsula has been featured on the world-wide web since 1997 but the site has been spiced up by The Dedicated Partnership. Furness Tourism Partnership programme manager Penny Knowles is confident the new Web site would attract more visitors to the area. The site already receives about 40 requests for the Lake District Peninsulas visitors guide every week. "The Internet is an increasingly popular source of information for holidaymakers" Ms. Knowles said. "We have revamped our Web site so the Lake District Peninsulas has an attractive shop window which is easy to download." Paul Johnson of The Dedicated Partnership said: " A massive growing global market is accessible through the Internet." "With effective marketing of the site, the Lake District Peninsulas stands to benefit from exposure to potential holidaymakers from all over the world" The Web site includes information about the towns and villages in the area including Ulverston, Grange and Barrow, visitor attractions, and a calendar of events and specialist pages for groups and cruise ship visits. Furness Tourism Partnership is also working on a strategy to encourage UK holidaymakers to stay in their own country rather than go overseas. The Furness Tourism Partnership hosted a garden party with hoteliers and guesthouse owners in Grange last month to discuss ways of combating fierce competition.
